About Counties Medical Integrated Heath Centre
Welcome to Counties Medical Integrated Health, covering Takanini, Papakura, Wattle Downs, Conifer Grove, Totara Heights and Goodwood since 1990.
Takanini Urgent Care was formed in 1990 by a group of General Practitioners working in South Auckland to provide after hours care to the local community. The original site was 106 Great South Road, Takanini. In February 2023 we opened our purpose-built Practice at Waiata Shores, just after the motorway interchange in the Countdown complex.
Our Papakura Site is known to most locals as the old Warehouse site.
Our Story
Counties Medical Limited Partnership (CMLP) formed in April 2013 and has a unique ownership structure. The company was owned by two equal limited partners, Takanini Care 2013 and South Link Health Services (SLHS).
Takanini Care 2013 was a local GP consortium whilst SLHS is a South Island-based Medical Centre and best practice specialist organisation. With the two shareholding groups working side by side this brought the best lessons from these different environments together to enable us to offer high quality services to our patients in South Auckland.
In September 2016, having outgrown the site at 79 Great South Road, we moved across the road into the fully renovated old Warehouse building of 6-18 O’Shannessey Street. The extra space, and purpose-built integrated health facility provides greater benefits, in a more pleasant environment, aimed at quality service, care and treatment for all our patients and their families.
In November 2021, Counties Medical became wholly owned by South Link Health.
Several allied health partners are on site at Papakura, providing a one stop shop for patients. This includes Pharmacy, X-Ray, Dentist, Physio, Podiatry, Hand Therapy and Osteopathy and regular specialist clinics including Psychology, Orthopaedic, Fracture, Diabetic and Ophthalmology.
The company works collegially with local GP’s, the local Marae, other primary care organisations and secondary care, through our local Counties Manukau District Health Board, to ensure we are offering the right care at the right time.
Quality improvement is at the forefront of all we do. Our treatment and care are based on standards of excellence and Best Practice. We are governed by the ten rights written into the Health & Disability Consumers Code of Rights which outline the rights of patients and the obligations we have as a provider of health services.
We have 80 highly skilled multidisciplinary staff. Their focus is very much on the delivery of best quality services to our patients. We conduct regular patient feedback surveys and welcome other feedback at any time – even in the form of complaints. Learning from complaints is an essential part of our quality programme and we implement positive changes from feedback and complaints wherever possible and appropriate.
The GP Clinic is certificated with the CORNERSTONE General Practice Accreditation programme, having met the standard for general practice services as set down by the RNZCGP and HDANZ Certification body.
The Urgent Care Clinics are certified as having met all the requirements for the NZ Standards for Accident & Medical Clinics in conjunction with ACC Accreditation.

Patients Feedback
Complaints & Feedback
Counties Medical welcomes feedback and comments, even if these are in the form of a complaint about the service or care you received. Making a complaint is an important way of improving the quality of the services we provide. Most people who make a complaint say they do not want what happened to them happen to someone else, and by knowing about it, we can then take steps to make positive changes.
We are also interested to hear positive feedback from your experience. We share this information with all our staff regularly.
If you would like to provide feedback, a comment or make a complaint, please phone us or email us at any time.
